Firearm Injuries and Cowboy Horror Afflictions

It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. You take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.
- Clint Eastwood

Finally got to play more BLB and decided to make a few more injuries related to the Cowboy Guns thing from last week. Though this set is less fantasy I'll be making another one that is full magic bullet sort of stuff later on. In addition, I've made a few Afflictions rolling with the same theme.

Injuries

(D6) Inflicted by the Gun

  1.  Lead Poisoning: With head sweltering like a furnace and stomach doing loops the Cryptdigger can hardly keep anything down. The Cryptdigger must succeed at a Brawn check every time they eat, drink, or take Medicine else they vomit it back up losing 1d3 Vigour.
  2. Full O' Holes: Their body has survived many wounds and every scar too delicate to hold closed for long. They are always bleeding leaving trails, smudges, and smears of blood everywhere they go. They must pass a Wits check to not leave their mark on anything they touch.
  3. The Shakes: The Cryptdigger is wracked with sudden violent spasms made worse in the Crypt. Permanently lose D3 Vigour. If the Cryptdigger fails a Grip check they immediately drop what ever they were holding on to (A sword, a ladder, hope etc).
  4. Dead Eyes: Once a warm welcoming reprieve from the Crypt's shadow bright lights now leave searing afterimages that burn torturously in the eyes of the Cryptdigger. Permanently lose 1 Will. Observation checks become Impossible in bright light.
  5. Blown Ears: One too many close shots have blown out the Cryptdigger's hearing making them extremely sensitive to sound. They get the Upper Hand on Observation checks to identify quiet sounds. However, when they are subjected to loud sounds (Gunshot, screaming, explosion, etc) they must make a Wits check or lose 1 Grip.
  6. Skull Fracture: Folks say your Cryptdigger was lucky; they aren't so sure. Permanently lose 1d3 Vigour. When you use Exertion you must pass a Brawn check or fall unconscious for 1 minute. You can be roused early by Medicine or by spending 1 Grip.

Cowboy Horror Afflictions

Gun Shy
(Growing Affliction)
A Gun Shy Cryptdigger has had their once iron resolve weathered to rust after one too many bad firefights. Their blood runs cold at the sight, smell, or sound of a gun and the thought of holding one again makes them shiver.

Gun Shy is Triggered when the Cryptdigger sees or hears a firearm go off or attempts to fire one themselves. They must roll a successful Will check or spend 1 Grip. If not, they are Against The Odds on any task not running and hiding until the combat ends or the gun fire stops.

Like The Tornado
(Character Flaw)
The character becomes enamored with their own skill with their firearm dancing and twirling their weapons like a tornado before lining up their shot. To them the kill is worthless without the dance. It is no feat to beat an adversary in a duel they must dominate the opposition in style.

A character Like The Tornado can put on a truly dazzling display but most of time their enemies and allies alike see it as a waste of time choosing instead to shoot first and dance later.

Gun Nut
(Character Flaw)
A Gun Nut is consumed by an obsession with the gunsmith's craft. Cleaning, loading, shining, and fiddling endlessly with their precious firearm. They care more for their beautiful machine than their own kin and assuredly more than any of the other Cryptdiggers. To them the gun is a sacred object to be venerated or worshipped and seldom fired.

Gun Nut's are often distracted and distant with other people but their eyes' light up if someone should speak favorably over the object of their obsession. If prodded further they can speak endlessly on their weapons modifications and materials used. They spend most of their wealth on their prized weapons leaving little for food, lodgings, or other creature comforts.

Conclusion And What's Next

Moving forward I'm thinking about reshuffling the base injury table to accommodate some of the more evocative injuries from the Consequences zine and my own creations just to give myself less page flipping to do but I'm still unsure exactly where I'll land on that.

Lastly, next week may be industrial inventions re-imagined as weird magic items or legendary magic swords re-imagined as firearms as I continue to convert more stuff for use in my setting. Thanks for reading.
